Areas of Interest:
Social Worker & Social Scientist
Background: Leigh has a background working in the social justice and university sector in the US. She has a master?s degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and is pursing doctoral work in the field. She is interested in thinking broadly about solutions to social problems so that these solutions transform social structures as a whole, rather than serving as band-aids. Most recently she has become interested in community-based economic development and fair trade as means to promote autonomy among vulnerable people and to combat poverty. She is also interested in projects that expose consumers to the social and environmental conditions behind the products they purchase. Her work has primarily been organizing with community centers and solidarity and activist groups in the US. She has also done research work evaluating social policy for the State of Wisconsin.
